6/10/2010 -- Dog Health & Nutrition

In the recent months, we have devoted a great deal of attention to educating ourselves further on dog nutrition.  Our favorite resource is a new book called To Your Dog’s Health by Mark Poveromo, owner of Thomaston Feed (in Thomaston, CT).  We enjoyed this book so much that we now carry it for you!  A couple of weeks ago, we also attended a dog food trade show to gain even more information about foods, supplements, and treats new to the industry.  Check out our upcoming summer newsletter for more details.

11/24/2009 -- Best Buds...

Parker & Penny started to play with each other last week!  They are becoming best friends and we couldn't be happier!

10/31/09 -- Another Family Addition!

The month of October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month.  We volunteered our time every weekend grooming dogs at DAWS in order to make them more adoptable.  Well....  we fell in love with one of the dogs we groomed!  Mid-month we groomed a very sweet Beagle and the following week decided to adopt her.  Penny came home with us on Halloween.  Penny is about 5 years old and has definitely had puppies in the past.  Now we both will always have a doggie co-pilot!!  Penny is pretty low-key so far and sleeps a lot, but we think it is beacuse she was just spayed.  She's not quite as quiet as Parker - she actually barks the Beagle bark!  Parker tries to play with her, but his advances go ignored for now!

9/20/09 -- The Fairy Dogmother is expanding - again!!

Thanks to all of our customers who refer us to friends, and as a result of high demand, we are getting a second van:  The Fairy Dogmother, Too!  We will be splitting up during the day so that we can provide our service to even more wonderful doggies.  Andrew will be grooming in the new van, which is due to arrive in late September.  We would like to thank everybody who has referred us more business as we strive to continue providing a great grooming experience!

5/25/09 -- Family Addition!

We have decided to grow our family.  We made a “quick” stop at our local animal shelter (www.DAWS.org) and fell in love!  We have adopted a fabulous Beagle who was named Austin at the shelter.  We changed his name to Parker.  Parker is estimated to be about 2-3 years old and was a stray out in Ohio.  He is the most lovable friendly dog.  He is playful and active (for Andrew), but is also quite content to just sit and be cuddled (for Corrie).  Parker is only about 25 lbs, which is just small enough to fit in our laps!   UPDATE:  Parker comes to work with us every day and has proved to be an excellent mascot!  He is very sociable and gets along with almost all of our customers.  Several nervous dogs seem to be a little more at ease knowing that Parker is there with them.  He has even developed several friendships and now gets scheduled play dates!!!

We now carry Raw Food!!

As part of our expansion into providing products to our customers, we have decided to also carry & deliver Raw Food.  We can order raw diets from Bravo and Natures Variety.  These are extremely high quality foods, and we encourage all of our doggies to get on a raw diet!

Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have about switching your pets over to a raw diet.

The Fairy Dogmother is expanding!

As many of you already know, The Fairy Dogmother is expanding!  In an effort to continue to provide great grooming and offer more readily available appointments, Andrew Fisher (my new husband) has joined me full-time.  We will be able to groom more efficiently and in some cases bring two dogs into the van at a time at our multiple-dog households.

Some of you have expressed interest in the treats and toys we give out after a grooming.  As an added benefit you will now be able to purchase several items from us directly.  The Fairy Dogmother will begin carrying and delivering food, treats, supplements, brushes, toys, and other dog related products to our customers!  This service will only be available to grooming customers as a convenience to our extended family.

We recently attended a seminar about dog food & nutrition given by holistic veterinarian, Dr. Doug Kneven.  We learned a great deal about how important a dog’s diet is for living a long healthy life, as well as how a simple diet change can alleviate many health problems.  We believe in promoting great health and nutrition, so we only will carry high quality foods & treats from brands that use human grade ingredients like Blue Buffalo, Merrick, Prairie, Instinct, Dogswell, Pure Bites, and Wagatha’s.  Literature on our products will soon be available 24 hours a day on our website, and on paper upon request.

The complete list and details of our products will be available soon on our website:  click on SHOP.  If you are looking for something in particular that you don’t see, please let us know and we will do our best to make a special order for you.

We are extremely excited about being able to offer you more!

As part of my commitment to providing excellent pet care to my customers, I recently took a Pet First Aid & CPR class.  The News Times wrote an article covering the class...

Care gone to the dogs: Pet Saver class teaches first aid, CPR, nutrition - By Sandra Diamond Fox Contributing writer
DANBURY -- If Corrie Foster's dog, a Brittany spaniel, should ever be injured and start to bleed excessively, Foster will know just what to do. That's because she participated in a recent Pet Tech Pet Saver Program at the Hibernian Society on Main Street.....

Why Learn Pet First Aid: First aid is the immediate care given to a pet that has been injured or suddenly taken ill. It is estimated that up to 60% of animal hospital visits are emergency in nature and it is the leading cause of death among pre-senior dogs and cats. According to the AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association), 1 in 4 more pets could be saved if just one technique was applied prior to veterinary treatment. Knowing the skills and techniques of Pet First Aid can mean the difference between life and death, temporary and permanent disability, rapid recovery and long recuperation, expensive vet bills and reasonable home care. The more you know about your pet's health, the better chance you have of keeping a simple problem from becoming a large one.
